Apple Crumble – Healthful

Autumn. Is. Here. Do you know what that means? Apple picking season.

We spent the weekend picking apples at an orchard. There is this cute orchard pretty close to us called Apple Berry Farms. Chickens roam around and they have veggies and pumpkins that you can pick too! Estela has been pretty obsessed with pumpkin patches lately and it was kind of hard to drag her away.

The mackintosh were WAY better than you can get anywhere else. An excellent addition to our fresh apple cider!

We started talking about all things “appley” and thought DUH! We need to make apple crumble! And then we documented it. Because you know… that’s just what you do when you make apple crumble.

Apple Crumble- Healthful

Recipe

Apple Filling:

4 cups variety of apples

1/2 tsp cinnamon

1/4 tsp allspice

1/3 cup pure maple syrup

about 2 TBSP lime (or lemon) juice

 

 

Crumble:

1 1/2 cups rolled oats

1/2 cups chopped pecans

4 TBSP whole wheat flour

5 TBSP coconut oil

1/3 cup SUCANAT

 

Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F.

Core and cut your apples into small pieces. I used my fancy shmancy apple coring machine that also slices and peels the skin! I am obsessed with it! Mix all the ingredients for the filling in a bowl and pour into a pie dish.

Mix all the ingredients for the crumble in a bowl and pour over the apple slices. Put into the oven and bake for about 45 minutes (the juices will be bubbling).

Let the crumble rest for 5-10 minutes before serving.
